THE HOUSEHistory has created this intriguing house. As a result of the dissolution of the monasteries, the Manor of Stuntney was given to the Steward family and it was in this old Manor House that Elizabeth Steward, the mother of Oliver Cromwell was born.
The house and
surrounding estate was bought by the family in 1860.The house started to
fall into disrepair and since 1997 Alison has been renovating it,
to the impressive home you see today.
Set on the southern edge of the Fens, the house has spectacular views across farmland to Ely Cathedral. Alison has created some formal gardens and a network of relaxed walks around the ornamental lakes, so that you can enjoy the views and the abundance of wildlife. The estate has a long term commitment to its shire horses and the stud is reputed to be the oldest in the country and contains some beautiful mares and fillies. If you wish to see them, we are only too happy to show them to you.
